Please refer to the descriptions below and the Skill Ranking guide to assist in determining which JAHA tier you should sign up for - all tiers are non-check and require the use of a half-shield facemask at a minimum:
SKATERS RATED 4 & 5
This is the most competitive JAHA tier and is for expert players who enjoy fast, competitive, non-check hockey.
Full slapshots are allowed in this tier.
SKATERS RATED 3 & 4
This tier is for advancing-skills adults who want a faster pace of play than Tier C or those of higher skill who are slowing down and/or would like a less competitive environment.
That said, higher-skilled Level 4 players are strongly encouraged to play in Tier A when possible.
Full slapshots are allowed in this tier.
SKATERS RATED 2 & 3
This tier is offered for mid-skilled adults who want to play recreational hockey while maintaining and improving their skills.
Waist-high slapshots are allowed.
SKATERS RATED 1 & 2
This tier is for new and less-skilled players who are out to have a good time. This tier is offered for adults who want to start playing hockey and/or improve their skills or those who are just out to burn some calories in a team environment.
Waist-high slapshots are allowed.
ALL SKATERS
This mixed skill tier is restricted to women only, with the exception of goalies when there are not enough registered women goalies.
The skill level in this tier may range from Beginner to Expert and the gameplay will reflect this. Higher skilled players are encouraged to assist in the development of lesser skilled players.
Waist-high slapshots are allowed in this tier.
ALL SKATERS
This mixed skill tier is restricted to players 40 years of age or older, with the exception of goalies when there are not enough registered 40+ goalies. Players turning 40 during the playing season qualify to register.
The focus of this tier is relaxed, recreational hockey. The skill level in this tier may range from Beginner to Expert and the gameplay will reflect this. Higher skilled players are encouraged to assist in the development of lesser skilled players. Players looking for more competitive play are encouraged to register for the appropriate Co-Ed Tier A, B, or C.
Additionally, teams may agree on a game-by-game basis to not switch sides of the ice between periods and to impose scoring restrictions on all players, such as 1 goal per player, to encourage passing and involvement of all players.
Waist-high slapshots are allowed in this tier.
