Notice of JAHA rule change

Posted by Juneau Adult Hockey Association at Oct 6, 2021 5:36PM PDT ( 1 Comment )

Hello JAHA,

After last night’s board meeting, the board has voted unanimously to make a modification to JAHA’s rules to allow us to better enforce the mask mandate required by the rink. The text of the rule change is listed below. There will be a 10 day period where comments can be submitted regarding the rule change, after which the rule will go into effect if no changes are adopted. If changes are adopted, there will be another 10 day comment period. If you have any comments regarding this rule change, please submit them to juneauadulthockey@gmail.com

6. Equipment

In addition to all equipment required by USA hockey rules, JAHA will also require masks be correctly worn in any circumstances where city or rink policy dictates. On-ice violations of this requirement will be subject to the same penalties that USA hockey equipment violations receive; which includes one warning first to each team before issuing misconduct penalties to individual players. Players may be found in violation of this rule by an official at any time while they are on the ice, however warnings/penalties will only be issued during stoppages in play. Off-ice violations of this policy (benches, locker rooms, and common areas) will be addressed by the board on a case-by-case basis and players found repeatedly in violation of this policy will be subject to discipline by the JAHA board as outlined in rules B1 (Sportsmanship) and B4 (Facility Rules). Penalties for off ice violations may range from warnings up to suspensions or bans.

Thank you to all of you have made the effort to appropriately mask while on the ice! They haven’t gone unnoticed in all of this.

We look forward to your feedback and will see you on the ice!

-Andrew Dimond, JAHA president

Hello JAHA players,

With our first week of games behind us I wanted to send out a reminder about facility policies as we’ve received a few comments about it from both players and rink staff:

1) Masks are required 100% of the time while in the Treadwell Arena. This includes the main lobby, locker rooms, and on the ice! We all need to ensure we are following this policy if we want JAHA to have continued access to the facility. As an additional reminder, if you have friends or family come to spectate the game, please ensure they are following this policy as well, as you are responsible for their actions when inside the facility, per JAHA rules (B.1 – Sportsmanship).

2) Locker rooms are only available for 15-20 minutes before/after the game. The intent is that players come partially dressed as locker rooms are intended to be co-ed for this season. Again, no shower or toilet/sink access will be available.

3) We haven’t run into this issue yet, but if you were exposed to a Covid-19 positive skate, the current recommendations as provided by the rink/Alaska Division of Public Health are to get tested 3-5 days after exposure. To schedule a free test, please call 586-6000, register online, or call your primary health care provider. Testing is recommended, but not required. You do not need to quarantine. If you have developed signs/symptoms of COVID-19 in the past few days, please get tested immediately. You may return to your regular scheduled ice sessions if you have received a negative COVID-19 test or not developed any symptoms. Please be sure the skater/s who tested positive for COVID, do not come to rink until cleared by public health.

As a final reminder, I’d just like to stress again how important it is to follow the masking policy if we want to continue using the rink facility. It’s a group effort and I know masking on the ice has been very lax as it makes it very difficult to play. However it is rink policy and we need to follow it. We (the board) are working on developing a way to properly enforce this but, in the mean time we ask that you as the JAHA players please do your part and mask up.

See you on the ice!

-Andrew Dimond, JAHA President

Teams Visibility Followup

Posted by JAHA Webmaster at Sep 23, 2021 11:34AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello all,

One quick follow up announcement. Several people have emailed saying they are unable to see rosters. As of right now this is a privacy setting linked with creating new teams and new tiers specifically for this season. I’m working on mirroring the settings of past tiers to correct this. For now, if you navigate to your inbox and accept your team invitation you will be able to see your team and roster. If you’re normally a person who just navigates to your tier and looks at the teams, it may take me until the end of the day to identify and mirror all of the privacy settings.

Thank you all for your patience!

-Andrew

Teams are posted!

Posted by Juneau Adult Hockey Association at Sep 23, 2021 10:17AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello JAHA!

At long last, teams for the fall 2021 season have finally been posted! If you registered, you should have received an email inviting you to join your team. If you didn’t, please navigate to your tier and check the teams!!! This was my first year uploading teams, on top of having several new tier reps, on top of having close to a dozen last minute sign ups and drop outs. It’s highly likely that somewhere along the way at least one person’s name fell through the cracks. We’re going back and double checking our work but please check and reach out to us ASAP if you were not placed on a team, if you were placed on a team but did not get an email, or if you were not placed in the correct tier.

As you’ll probably notice, the schedule has not been uploaded yet. It has been finalized, and should be uploaded hopefully by the end of the day tomorrow.

Now that that’s out of the way, please see the following list of other important points you should be aware of:

1) We are in need of scorekeepers! If you are interested in getting paid to watch JAHA games, please see the attached flyer from the folks at JHO and reach out if you are interested.
2) If you are a player and have a sponsored jersey from the previous season, please do your best to get them to a tier rep (or myself) as soon as possible. If you are a sponsor and need a list of all players in 2020 that had your jerseys, please reach out to the JAHA email account (juneauadulthockey@gmail.com) and we will generate a list for you to aid in tracking those down
3) We have a whole host of new jerseys that were acquired for JAHA use! You will see them in use across several tiers this year. For those of you who have JAHA jerseys from the 2020 season, we aren’t interested in collecting them so feel free to do with them as you wish SO LONG AS THEY ARE NOT FROM A SPONSORED TEAM
4) Finally, to reiterate points from the last announcement post: locker rooms will be open, masks are required 100% of the time while inside the rink, maximum locker room capacity is 15 people, and showers will not be available.

I think that covers it, I’m looking forward to seeing you all back at the rink!

JAHA family-

We are still slightly behind the minimum number of skaters we’d need to field a minimum of 3 teams in each tier. The minimum number of skaters we’d need to field 3 teams in each tier is 30 skaters and 3 goalies. Our registration numbers as of Tuesday August 31st are as follows:

Tier A – 13 (2 goalie)
Tier B – 27 (3 goalie)
Tier C – 27 (2 goalie)
Tier D – 13 (2 goalie)
Tier W – 24 (2 goalie)
Tier 40 – 22 (1 goalie)

Given that the board elected to go with a 10 game season instead of a 12 game season before we opened registration, we have elected to postpone the start of the season by an additional week in an attempt to get enough skaters registered to field 3 teams in each tier. This will be the last postponement.

If we do not receive more registrants, the Fall season WILL proceed with two tiers: a competitive tier combining Tier A and Tier B registrants, and a noncompetitive/fun tier combining Tier C and Tier D registrants. Tier 40 and Tier W registrants can choose to move to one of those tiers, or opt for a refund. In addition, if you’re registered and not willing to play in one of the proposed combined tiers, you can request a refund. IF we get enough additional registrants to field our minimum 3 teams in the tiers, we’ll progress as a normal season.

The new season start date will be September 26th Please note, the season will still end at the normal time and playoffs will happen as normal. This is just a delay in the season start date to allow more people the chance to sign up.

So, for those of you who haven’t registered yet, now is the time! For those of you who have friends in your tiers that are on the fence, this is your window to go convince them to sign up! For any questions, please reach out at juneauadulthockey@gmail.com

Locker Room Update –

The EOC has approved our request to use the locker rooms during the season. The same rules as last year are in effect, with the following rules added in regards to locker room usage:

• The locker room key must be checked out to unlock the locker room, and returned by the last person to exit.
• Locker room max capacity is 15 people.
• Can enter locker room 15 minutes before game start, and must leave within 15 minutes of game close.
• Masks must be worn at all times.
• Shower rooms are to remain closed and unused.

Thanks and hope to see you on the ice!
