The Juneau Adult Hockey Association (JAHA) is closing in on the end of the regular season for Winter 2015 and playoffs are rapidly approaching. This season has been a roller coaster! As rankings become set, games will be schedule here and should show up on your team’s calendar.

In Tier A, the Killer Whales are looking to take a bite out of Island Pub’s grip on first place and are coming on strong with a late-season surge. Just one point separates these two teams and the ultimate ranking could come down to the final game of the season for both teams – against each other – this Sunday, March 22nd. This promises to be an exciting matchup that will set the tone going into the tournament.

Switching over to Tier B action, Rendezvous appears to have met the challenge and has clinched the number one seed, but the battle among the remaining rankings are tight. With just four points between second and fifth and one or two games left, there could be plenty of shuffling going on over the next week, so stay tuned.

Looking at Tier C, it looked like smooth sailing for Amalga Harbor early on in the season, but both Alaska Air and the Tigers are rolling through like a squall and are right on Amalga’s heels, just two points behind in a tie for second. Will Amalga Harbor’s powerhouse offense be enough to hold on to the lead or will they be sunk in their final games and leave the door open to be overtaken? We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.

In Women’s Tier, the Douglas Huskies have bulldogged their way to a first-ranked seeding, fending off a push by White Pass. With last night’s tie between White Pass and the Comets leaving White Pass with 17 points, a win against the Huskies in tonight’s final regular season showdown would deadlock the two teams at 19 points. The Huskies would edge out White Pass in the head-to-head wins tiebreaker, going 2-0-1 on the season thus far against White Pass. Don’t count out Eagle Beach or the Comets just yet, either – both teams’ performances have been steadily improving since January and both appear ready to peak at just the right time.

Last but not least, in Tier 40 action, an explosive offensive showing backstopped by an equally powerful defense has dropped the A Bombs right into first place, securing a five point lead over Mendenhall Valley. The battle for who will take them on in Game 1 will be fought between Good Hardware and Svensson Boatworks over the next week.

Of course, as we all know, once we hit the playoffs, what happened during the regular season goes out the window. Good luck to all and may the best teams prevail and hoist their tier’s trophy at the Island Pub!
