Fellow Hockey Players,
On behalf of our JAHA Board, we would like to welcome you all to the Winter session of our 2009-2010 Hockey Season. We are scheduled to begin play on Sunday January 10th.
But before we talk about the new season let's reflect on our last season. We all should thank the staff of the Treadwell Arena, the on ice and off ice officials and those twisted souls who cover as goalies for those teams that didn't have goalies this last season. And, "It just shows to go ya", you can never predict who the tier champions will be. Congratulations to all on a great Championship Tournament, the games were competitive and exciting in all Tiers!

On January 5th during our last Board meeting, the Board reviewed the incoming registrations and we were happy to see our player numbers increased this winter season enough to add two more teams. The proposal for adding a fourth tier was brought up again and that motion passed. JAHA will now have four divisions; the proponents of the proposal believe that our Association would grow and individual abilities could also improve when players are competing with like-skilled teams. Change is difficult and the Board is quite aware that we will never please everyone. It was just two years ago or so when JAHA had four tiers and I believe due to lack of players we dropped down to three, we will see how the season goes. Don't hesitate to contact me or any Board member with your comments and suggestions. Since this is your Association, I believe we all are responsible for its success. To that point, we are expecting each team designate a team representative for the season. That Team Rep shall be responsible for interacting with each Tier Rep with any issues or challenges that may come up through the season.
The JAHA site, http://www.juneauhockey.org will offer contact information, game schedules, important dates, game rules, Board meeting minutes, registration information, and other content that will help our season run smoothly. We'll see you all on the ice.
