JHO Report
- JHO wants to electronically bill all contracted agencies going forward - there was discussion regarding how this should work for JAHA.
- JHO will be meeting next week and will discuss an issue that JAHA has brought to their attention regarding one official
- They have picked up three new quality refs recently.
- JAHA wants more emphasis on less lip being given by players to the refs - there should be consistency in not allowing the players to mouth off to the refs.
- Also for teams this year, please think about refs that are also playing - if many are loaded onto one team, it makes it hard to staff the game.
- They are trying to keep costs down, but the Anchorage association doesn't want to keep sending down the trainer - they may have to foot the bill going forward.
- Refs have had a hard time this year being on the bench side - players haven't been paying attention to avoiding the refs, and sticks / players changing have been getting in the way.
- Equipment: nobody is allowed to cut sections out of their helmet cage or paint their helmet - these are illegal alterations to equipment.
- Equipment: It's OK for stick tips to be slightly broken on the end, as long as there are no hazardous edges - tape it or file it down.
- Safety issue: No kicking toward another player - that can be a match penalty - even if you are trying to kick at the puck.
- Safety issue: Tom asked if the goalies can be protected more - when the players are whacking at the goalie, can the refs please call these more often, or at least stop the play?
- Colin asked for some clarity and consistency on the icing calls, and Jack said it requires a judgement call and they are supposed to try to keep the game going.
- Tom asked that the full amount of time for a penalty (i.e., if there are two 2 minute penalties on one person) be put up on the clock.
- He said they are working on being good with their signals to the score keepers. Jack said the refs have noticed so far this year that the teams all seem to be having a consistently good time - more so than in prior years. The players have mostly been fantastic to work with.
Treasurer's Report
- Alice is asking Brown & Associates to do the following:
- Any JAHA board officer can drop off bills (we will give them a list of the authorized officers)
- B&A should pay bills within two weeks of drop off for payment
- Tax forms and reports should be filed before the due date - with proof of timely mailing sent to the Board
- Bank recs every month and updated check register by the following month end forwarded to the Board
- Give JAHA invoice every month with a detail of their services provided
- Alice will be meeting with them on these issues, and any unpaid bills that need to be paid.
Registration Status
- Players need to be reminded that they need to sign the CBJ waiver, and if they want us to register them for USA Hockey, they have to fill out the USA Hockey forms.
- Colin will email Greg Smith and ask if they (CBJ) should be keeping the CBJ waivers as opposed to JAHA.
- It's in the bylaws that if people's registration checks are being returned for NSF, and it happens twice, then we cannot accept checks anymore from them. They must either pay with cash or a money order, or they can pay via Paypal by credit card. (amended by cto 12/19: this isn't in bylaws, but has been set by precedent in years past)
- Colin will be moving all the Paypal money over to the JAHA checking account.
- We have about 205 registrations so far.
- Colin is attempting to be sure that the registrations for specific tiers will work for the players/teams.
- Teams will stay the same as last season as much as possible.
- There will be some movement around, depending on the open spots on each team.
- Depending on the number of registrations that come in, there may need to be just one larger women's league.
- The Women's B team will now be white, and the green team will be red (sponsored by Les Schwabb).
Meeting adjourned: 7:33 PM
Next meeting: to be held on the 2nd of January, primarily to set up all of the teams.
