D Tier - Proposed Rule Change

Posted by JAHA Webmaster at Dec 13, 2021 11:07AM PST ( 0 Comments )

Hello D tier players,

After some issues came up during the fall season, the JAHA board has voted (8-2) in favor of putting a new rule in place for D tier. Pursuant to our bylaws, the new rule will be submitted to the affected tier for a 10 day comment period. After the 10 day period expires, the board will consider any comment and the rule will either be modified and resubmitted for another comment period, withdraw the rule, or have the rule go into effect immediately upon the end of this comment period.

Notice of this rule change will be posted at the rink tomorrow evening and as such, this rule change will be slated to go into effect next Wednesday (so it won’t affect any of you until winter season begins).

Please submit your comments via email to juneauadulthockey@gmail.com

Thanks,

-Andrew Dimond, JAHA president.

C.4 – Substitutions

When substitutes are required for the beginner tier, and no substitutes are available from that tier, players that substitute from higher leagues will be ineligible to score goals in this game. Referees will be informed before the start of play who these substitutes are, an indication will also be included on the scoresheet, and in the event that a goal is scored by one of these players, play will be stopped and a faceoff will occur at the nearest faceoff circle.

Explanation: The skill gap that exists between C tier and D tier combined with the lack of pool of substitutes for D tier games given the tier often has exactly 2 teams, there has been a repeated issue of D tier players feeling like they have a lack of agency in their own games when C tier subs are involved. Similarly, there are very few concrete guidelines that exist for these players to follow when subbing down. The aim of this rule is to specifically discourage these players from attempting to score goals and instead facilitate play for D tier players. We want to foster an environment where C tier players still find some benefit in subbing down for D tier games while also continuing to involve D tier players in play rather than dominating and attempting to score.

Hi All,

For those of you who haven’t yet registered for winter season, please be aware that we have set the deadline for registration as the 19th of December.

This is the cutoff we use for determining how many teams will exist in each tier. This is also when we will make the determination for if we need to combine tiers again like fall season, and generate our schedules for the rink and officials.

Please keep this date in mind and sign up before then if you want to guarantee yourself a spot in the tier(s) of your choice and reach out to us at juneauadulthockey@gmail.com if you have any questions.

See you on the ice!

Hi All,

The teams, rosters, and schedules have been posted for the Jamboree that starts this Sunday! Given the volume of issues we had in the fall season with people being able to accept their teampages invites, I have included team rosters in picture form. Please check that you received an invitation for the correct team.

As per usual, if you have any issues, please reach out to juneauadulthockey@gmail.com

See you on the ice!

Hi All,

As we had a few issues with this in the fall season and as people are signing up for winter season I wanted to make people aware of a few things when they sign up

1) You do not need to pay for an Active Refund. As JAHA, we offer refunds for pretty much any reason you might request, so there is no need to spend your money for an Active refund. This is offered through Active and we have no control over it but as we offer refunds there is no reason to purchase this

2) You may be prompted to sign up for Active Advantage after registering. Again, this is another product offered by Active specifically and it has 0 application towards JAHA. The screen will pop up after confirming your JAHA order and you do NOT need to sign up for this. Simply click no thanks. Please see the attached photo.

Unfortunately these offers are the price we pay to use the Active platform but we wanted to make our members aware of them. If for some reason you have signed up unwittingly you can go through Active customer support to get a refund. If you need help with that process feel free to reach out to us at juneauadulthockey@gmail.com

Final reminder that registration for Holiday Jamboree ends this Friday November 26

Thanks and see you on the ice!

Hi All,

The final games for the fall season will be played this Sunday at the rink! With the downgrade of the city’s COVID alert level to 3 modified high, the rink is now allowing up to 80 people total inside, so feel free to come watch the games! The schedule for tomorrow is as follows:

4:00pm Women’s Tier – Juneau Composts VS West Juneau Shamrocks
5:15pm AB Tier – Island Pub VS El Sombrero
6:30pm C40 Tier – Tee Harbor A Bombs VS 322nd Carrier Troop Squadron
7:45pm D tier – Mendenhall Valley VS Lemon Creek

JHO is still looking for any responses/feedback from the JAHA userbase as we continue to find ways to address our referee shortage, so I encourage you to fill out their very short survey to provide feedback to them. We are working with JHO to come up with some possible changes before the winter 2022 season begins.

As a final reminder if you made it this far; registration is currently open for the Holiday Jamboree tournament, Winter 2022 season, and Intro to Hockey. Registration for Winter/Intro will remain open for quite a while, however Jamboree registration closes FRIDAY NOVEMBER 26, so if you are planning to register, keep that in mind. As stated previously, this will be a hard cutoff date for determining the number of teams so if you want to guarantee yourself a spot get your registration in before then.

Thanks and see you all on the ice!
